TITLE:    Assistant Principal

REPORTS TO:  Principal 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

  1. Pennsylvania Principal Certification required:  Pennsylvania K-12 Principal Certification preferred
  2. Master’s Degree in Curriculum with a background in mathematics.
  3. Minimum of five years of professional and /or administrative experience preferred, appropriate to the position

JOB SUMMARY:  The Assistant Principal is an instructional leader responsible for contributing to and communicating an instructional vision and focused plan for improving student achievement; monitoring and supervising instruction; supporting teachers in improving their instructional practice; creating a community of continuous learning for all staff and students; and fostering a culture of high expectations for all students. This job requires a candidate strong in the area of curriculum and math.  In addition, the Assistant Principal is charged with building strong partnerships with families and community, creating a safe, supportive school climate, and effectively managing operational, technical, and staff issues to promote instructional progress. Knowledge and practices regarding COVID-19 and on-going training and up-to-date collection from DOH and CDC guidelines.

PERFORMANCE ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  1. Promote highly effective instruction through effective communication within UPCS comprehensive system for professional growth and evaluation.
  2. Ability to communicate effectively with all stakeholders in the Virtual Learning or Hybrid Learning model.  This includes written and oral form, including electronic media, and using positive interpersonal skills. 
  3. Demonstrate operational knowledge of Internet and Web-related technologies.
  4. Utilizing ZOOM, must establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, parents, and the school community.
  5. Collaborate with school based leadership teams.
  6. Work with the administrative team by daily walkthroughs and/or formal observations as required.
  7. Work with the administrative team in developing a master schedule that provides the greatest opportunities for students, balances class sizes, and effectively utilizes the talents of staff.
  8. Work with the Director of Curriculum in organizing and coordinating grade level and department meetings in order to effect horizontal and vertical integration and articulation of the instructional program.
  9. Work with the Director of Curriculum in interpreting the present curriculum and proposed curriculum changes to the board, administration and the staff.
  10. Provide leadership and direction to the teachers in the area of mathematics.  Reviewing data and working with the teachers in planning mathematical instruction.
  11. Analyze and understand data and effectively use it to form actions within the school.
  12. Collaborate with the leadership team and initiate a strong sense of team and serve on committees as appropriate.
  13. Work with the administrative team in planning and implementing appropriate professional development as it relates to UPCS and strategic planning.
  14. Assist with evaluating staff and maintaining staff accountability, according to best practices and school policy.
  15. Clearly communicate UPCS vision and mission to the community and maintain a positive school climate while maintaining staff accountability.
  16. Inspire innovation among the school community.
  17. Maintain appropriate certifications and training hours as required.
  18. Be an active member implementing the PBIS goals and to teach/guide students to follow the P.A.T.H.
  19. Create an atmosphere of teamwork.
  20. Maintain respect at all times for confidential information.
  21. Performs other duties as assigned by the Principal/CEO.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to  perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. 

  1. Knowledge and experience using Charlotte Danielson’s Framework for teaching Standards as a professional growth and evaluation tool.
  2. Demonstrate ability to manage systemic change and successfully implement reform initiatives that  produce significant gains in closing the achievement gap.
  3. Demonstrate knowledge of high leverage, research-based instructional strategies and models for improving instructional practices.
  4. Demonstrate experience with proficiency based teaching and learning systems.
  5. Demonstrate proficiency in the use of data to assess student progress and inform instructional practice.
  6. Demonstrate experience and success working as a member of an administrative level leadership team.
  7. Demonstrate experience and success working with curriculum with an emphasis in mathematics.
  8. Experience and/or training in Advanced Placement programs.
  9. Experience and knowledge with graduation requirements.
  10. Effective interpersonal skills in managing and interacting with diverse groups of stakeholders.
  11. Demonstrate ability to manage conflict through quality decision-making and effective problem solving.
