Description

Reporting to the executive director, the development director will formulate and implement plans and strategies to help the agency sustain and grow funding. As a senior staff member, the development director will be responsible achieving the Center’s fundraising goals through annual giving, major gifts, grants, and special events. Additionally, the development director will serve as the chief marketing officer responsible for the agency’s webpage, social media presence, and email marketing. Finally, the development director will be responsible for receiving and acknowledging all gifts.

Duties and Responsibilities

Strategic Resource Development

  • Work with the executive director to craft short and long-term fundraising goals
  • Develop and execute the organization’s fundraising plans
  • Establish, interpret, implement, and monitor adherence to organizational policies and procedures for soliciting, receiving, and acknowledging private gifts
  • Write grant applications in conjunction with program staff members
  • Manage the Center’s database and direct donor communications, including acknowledgment letters
  • Seek out and develop innovative funding partnerships
  • Work with the executive director to plan and coordinate special fundraising events, including the annual gala and any hosted conferences

Annual Giving, Major Gifts and Special Events

  • Utilize best fundraising practices to develop, coordinate, and manage an annual campaign and major gifts campaign
  • Create and execute plans related to donor retention and new donor acquisition
  • Manage the creation of innovative and responsive campaign materials and annual newsletter
  • Lead all aspects of the Center’s annual fundraiser “An Evening for the Children’s Advocacy Center including
    • Soliciting sponsorships, auction items, and individual ticket sales
    • Designing all promotional materials
    • Coordinating all event logistics
    • Managing all event volunteers

Board Commitments and Donor Stewardship and Engagement

  • Provide board members, staff, and volunteers with assistance on effective fundraising methodologies and processes to increase their potential for fundraising success
  • Attend board meetings and report on fundraising results
  • Serve as staff liaison to the external affairs committee of the board.
  • Create plans that increase philanthropic giving from individuals, organizations, and corporate partners
  • Create a strategy for identifying and cultivating prospective individual and corporate donors as part of an actively managed donor portfolio

Public Relations and Marketing

  • Communicate a positive image of the organization to build confidence and trust with stakeholders and the public
  • Maintain and regularly update the Center’s website
  • Create a content calendar to drive thoughtful social media posts
  • Write and/or update marketing materials to promote resource development
  • When necessary, represent the organization at public events, make presentations to civic groups, and attend special events


Requirements

Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university and a minimum of three to five years of professional development experience
  • The successful candidate will be a dynamic and self-motivated individual who is also creative, resourceful, detail-oriented, and flexible. Additionally, the candidate must demonstrate tact, good judgement, and cultural sensitivity.
  • A positive attitude and strong work ethic and the ability to work well as a team member including interacting with staff, community professionals, and volunteers
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills
  • Basic computer proficiency including mastery of all standard business software and social media platforms
  • Commitment to the highest levels of confidentiality and discretion
  • Ability to pass both a criminal and child abuse and neglect background check
